Today For Science At Enrich

Today at Enrich for science we made our own lava lamp again. But this time we used sherbet instead of baking soda, oil, food coloring and water. The sherbet didn't work very good so we used baking soda, citric acid and tartaric acid. Mine and Conor's one worked good. After that we made hokey pokey.

Debating

Today at Enrich I went to a workshop called debating. My team was the negative team. The debate was about "Should Homework Be Banned?". Our team got 6 points and the other team (positive) got 4 points. My reason why homework should not be banned was that if you didn't have homework you would not go very far and it would be hard to study at university.

Hi Louie.
It was great to see your enthusiasm in our science talent development session today. You are becoming more confident when sharing your ideas about why we get the results we do, and what it all means! You worked well with Conor today to create your own fire extinguisher, and to inflate the balloon with the gas produced by mixing baking soda and vinegar together. You listened patiently during my workshop on Twice Exceptionally Gifted Children, and shared ideas of your own to make connections regarding this learners strengths and weaknesses. Keep up the great effort Louie!
Katie

Today at Enrich.

Today at Enrich we made our own fire extinguishers out of baking soda and vinegar. It was the gas that put the candle out. We also made a pump thing to blow up balloons. We filled the bottle with vinegar then a few teaspoons of baking soda and put the ballon over the top and it inflated because of the gas the baking soda and vinegar produced.

Hi Louie.
I was really impressed with your effort during science talent development today. You followed the steps of the scientific method so well. We had a clear result with our last experiment on the effect different substances would have on the melting time of ice. The ice cube that had been sprinkled with salt melted a lot faster. When you couldn't tell me why this was, you went and investigated on the Internet. It is so important to do this when completing scientific investigations - we want to know the reason why we got the results we did. Well done Louie - make sure you keep investigating/researching to clarify your understanding for future science experiments.
Katie.

Today at Enrich.

Today at Enrich for science we did a few experiments. For one of the experiments we put out a plastic sheet and poured water with nothing in it on it. This is our control. On the other plastic sheet we poured some water with salt in it. After a while we checked it and nothing much had happened. We also did some experiments with ice-cubes. There were Raro, sugar and plain ice-cubes. We had to see which ice-cube melted the fastest. The plain ice-cube melted fastest.

First day of term 4 at Enrich

Today at Enrich, the students had to choose their talent development. The choices were: science and maths. I chose science and so did Conor. Also at Enrich we had a science table and we got to see the equipment that it had. On top there was a computer with a digital microscope connected to it. We looked at some science experiments on youtube about dry ice and some other things.

Two stars and a wish

Two stars and a wish is a reflection on terms or years. The two stars are what you enjoyed over the time. The wish is a thing that you would like to change. My two stars over the term 3 at Enrich would have to be: the documentaries and playing around outside as well as playing inside and on the computers. My wish would be to have a field or more stuff to do with sport such as soccer and rugby.etc.

Interviewing someone

Today at Enrich for talent development Alan Dennis came in because I had to interview him about how the ILT helps southland. When I watched it, it made a buzzing sound so we had to do it again, but it was too late he had already left. I rang him back but it went to his answering machine so I left a message.

Talent development

Today for talent development I interviewed Alana because we needed it for our documentary and I also finished off my questions for Alan Dennis. Conor made a phone call to the Cycle Southland to interview the head of Cycle Southland. Conor's nice mum is going to drop our group of to Cycle Southland.

This week at Enrich.

Today at enrich I had to think of some questions to ask Alan Dennis. First I couldn't think of anything at all, then I thought of 2 questions. Ash had interviewed Alana not too long ago but the video wasn't good so he had to interview her again. Conor also had to make a plan on what he was going to say on the phone to Cycle Southland. Finn did the same for his phone call to Lyndalll Ludlow.

Hi Louie,

You were very organised in making your phone call and setting up your interview with Mr Dennis this week. I'm looking forward to seeing how your documentary about the ILT turns out, so far the planning is going well!

Talent development.

Today at Enrich my small group of 3 made a storyboard of our documentary. Also today I made a plan for what I was going to say on the phone to Alan Dennis. Alan Dennis is a person that works at the ILT. I rang him to ask if we could interview him on the 30th of August, but he was busy, he is going to be in Christchurch, so we changed the date to Tuesday the 6th of September. The reason why I'm talking to Alan Dennis is because it is part of my talent development and he works at the ILT.

Today at Enrich the documentary talent development group
got together and thought of some questions and got into groups of 3 or 4. My group made a draft of what Ash had to say on the phone to the Southland Times to get some tips on interviewing people, but sadly no one answered the phone. So Ash had to ring them later.

Teacher comment

Louie you have shown a real interest in completing the current affairs this past term! It has been great to see you challenge yourself with this task each week. Your time management skills have developed, and will continue to do so over the coming terms with the aid of your positive attitude. You are learning about resilience, to keep trying even when things don’t go the way you want them to the first time. This is a very valuable skill to have! Keep it up Louie!

Today at Enrich.

Today at Enrich, Conor and I got further on with our Passion Project. We changed it a bit. We are now making a flyer to go out to all the parents of Enrich students to let them know all the amazing projects that we have been working on this term to help out either Christchurch or Japan due to the earthquakes earlier in the year. Conor and I made a draft on scrap paper and now we are starting to publish it on the computer. We will complete these next week, and send them out for the end of the term.

Passion Projects

This chart shows the passion projects being completed by Enrich students this term. Each project will benefit either Christchurch or Japan as each project will result in donations of money, clothing, books and other items for the people most effected by the earthquake.

This week it is gifted week we had to show what gifted means to us. This is what gifted means to me. It has Renzulli's,Gagne's and Tannebaum's model of giftedness on it to show what they think giftedness is.

Comic Life Workshop

Today I went to the comic life workshop. I learnt how to change the background color and add pictures from student shared. I like that you can put pictures on with out having to copy and paste them, you just drag them onto it.

Moment in History

Today I did a workshop about Moments in History. We learnt about the hubble telescope and the rocket ship "Discover", which is retiring.

This is part of my comic life. This is a NASA rocket ship lifting off. My Comic Life is a newspaper page about the "Discovery's" lifetime.
